5 Signs You Might Be Ready for a Change
In this solo episode of Creative Space, I’m diving into something I’ve lived through, and something I see often in my coaching clients: the quiet signs that it’s time for a change.
We don’t always realize it when we’re stuck. Sometimes we’re too busy being “responsible,” too afraid to admit that what we’re doing doesn’t light us up anymore. But the truth is, your inner restlessness might be trying to tell you something.
I share five signs that helped me recognize I needed to pivot, along with stories from my own life and reflections that might resonate with you too. If you’ve been feeling unsettled, stuck, or a little off… this one’s for you.
And if you want support navigating your next step, I’d love to offer you a free 30-minute discovery call to see if coaching might be right for you. Book here.

Hello and welcome back to Creative Space. I'm Jennifer Logue, a creative coach and fellow human figuring it out right alongside of you. So if you're new here, this podcast is all about exploring what it really means to live a creative, authentic and fulfilling life, whether that means embracing big dreams, tiny changes and all the points in between. Today's topic is one that's really close to my heart, and we're talking about five signs you might be ready for a change. Because, let's be real, change is scary. Even when something isn't working anymore, it can feel safer to cling to what's familiar than to step out into the unknown, and I know this firsthand. For years I was doing what looked responsible and grown up on paper, but inside I felt restless. It took me a long time to admit I needed a change. So today I want to share five signs that you might be ready for a change in your own life, based on my own experience and the work I do with my coaching clients. My hope is that you'll hear these and maybe recognize yourself in one or a few, and that it will give you permission to get curious about what might be next for you.
Jennifer Logue:Okay, sign number one Things feel heavy instead of light. I love asking this question Does it feel heavy or does it feel light? When I was thinking about buying my house in Philly on paper it was the smart move Low interest rates, stability, adulting but in my heart it felt heavy. There was no sense of expansion or possibility, despite the fact it was supposed to be a good investment. So if the path you're on feels like you're dragging yourself through it, that's a sign that maybe you need to change. If what you're about to do feels draining instead of exciting, that's a sign. Deep down, you know what's best for you. You know what your next best move is, and that's going to be different for all of us, because we were all born with a unique purpose, with unique gifts. So what's right for me may be completely different than what's right for you. So sit with that. Sit with whatever you're contemplating. Does it feel heavy or does it feel light?
Jennifer Logue:Sign number two you're saying should more than want. This one I see constantly in my coaching clients and again, it's probably because I've lived it too. I realized most of my choices at a certain time were coming from a place of should. I should stay here and bloom where I'm planted. I should be grateful for what I have. I shouldn't want more. I should stay here and bloom where I'm planted. I should be grateful for what I have. I shouldn't want more. I should stay in this job because it's stable Stable. I should be realistic. I shouldn't rock the boat. The word should is often a dead giveaway. You're living someone else's script. You're living someone else's life. If you're not even letting yourself think about what it is you want, you might be avoiding a change you actually need.
Jennifer Logue:Sign number three even when things look good, you're restless. This one is a little sneaky On paper. My life was great. I had the house, I was settled, but there was this constant low level buzz of restlessness. So I kept the house. I was settled, but there was this constant low-level buzz of restlessness. So I kept myself busy, I decorated, I made the house cute and cozy, but that feeling of restlessness, it never went away.
Jennifer Logue:Restlessness is often our soul nudging us. It's saying this, isn't it? There's more If you're restless, even when things seem fine, pay attention and dig a little deeper. What are you restless about? Is there something you could change? But you're avoiding it.
Jennifer Logue:Sign number four you're making excuses to stay put. It's not the right time. I've already spent so much on furniture. I'll live here and I'll just travel more. That's the solution. Pennsylvania is more affordable than California and while some of these reasons might be true, they were excuses more than anything.
Jennifer Logue:Change is uncomfortable. It threatens our sense of control and for me, losing that sense of control is what kept me clinging to my house and my comfort zone in Philadelphia for so long. Fear of losing control can lead to so many of us rationalizing, staying stuck, so you catch yourself constantly justifying why you can't. That's a sign to pause and ask is this really true or am I scared? And on that note, think about this for a second. Do happy people constantly overanalyze why they're not doing something? No, because they're happy with the choice they made. They're at peace with themselves in this area. Anyway, just something to think about.
Jennifer Logue:Sign number five you're constantly escaping reality. This one affects so many people and you may not even realize you're doing it at first, but you're always keeping yourself distracted. You're binging shows, doom-scrolling shopping, drinking, overworking, saying yes to every plan, anything to avoid sitting quietly with your own thoughts. For me, I filled my calendar, I threw myself into work, I obsessed over decorating my house. It felt productive, but it was really just me avoiding the truth. I wasn't happy living where I was.
Jennifer Logue:We often escape reality because it's uncomfortable to face what we really want, because wanting something different can be scary, because it means getting out of our comfort zone and making new choices. But here's the thing If you're constantly escaping, it's worth asking what am I trying not to feel? Because that's usually where the answer is. So let's recap the five signs you're ready for a change. Number one it feels heavy instead of light. Number two you're saying should instead of want. Number three you're restless even when things look good. Number four you're making excuses to stay put. And number five you're constantly escaping reality.
Jennifer Logue:If any of this resonated with you, know that you're not alone. Change can be hard, it can be vulnerable, but it's also where the magic happens. And the truth is you don't have to do it all alone. If you're feeling a pull to make a change in your life and you want help getting clear on what you really want or figuring out what your next step is, I'd love to help. This is exactly what I do with my coaching clients. I offer complimentary discovery calls to see if we're a good fit to work together, and there's no pressure, it's just an honest conversation.
