Hello everyone and welcome to Creative Space, a podcast where we explore, learn and grow in creativity together. My name is Jennifer Logue and today we're talking about that elusive, magical state we all chase creative flow. I got an email from Sam, a filmmaker and musician in Austin, who had a great question about this. Here's what Sam wrote Hi, jennifer, I've been struggling to get into that zone where everything just flows naturally. I know I do my best work when I'm in that state, but it seems so hard to reach. Do you have any tips on how to get into creative flow more often, sam? Sam, first off, thank you so much for reaching out. Flow is something we all strive for, but it can be tricky to get into right. Let's talk about some ways to invite that flow state into our lives more often.
Jennifer Logue:Tip number one create a distraction-free zone. First of all, setting up a space where you can work without distractions is key. It doesn't have to be a fancy studio. It can just be a spot where you feel comfortable and won't be interrupted. Turn off the notifications on your phone, close the door and give yourself permission to focus.
Jennifer Logue:Tip number two have a pre-creative routine. Think of it like warming up before a workout. A little ritual can signal to your brain that it's time to get creative. Maybe it's brewing a cup of tea, playing a favorite song or doing a quick stretch. Find out what works for you and stick with it. And I have my cup of tea right here. It's part of my little routine.
Jennifer Logue:Tip number three set clear small goals. It's easier to get into flow when you're focused on one specific task Instead of thinking I need to finish this entire project. Slow your roll. Try breaking it down. I'm going to write the first paragraph or I'll sketch the basic outline. Small goals help keep you focused and engaged. Tip number four choose the basic outline. Small goals help keep you focused and engaged.
Jennifer Logue:Tip number four choose the right time. Pay attention to when you feel most creative. Some people are morning people, like me, others are night owls. Try to schedule your creative time when you're naturally at your best. It makes getting into flow a lot easier. And tip number five don't force it. Don't stress if it doesn't happen right away. Flow is like a cat. You can't make it come to you, but you can create the right environment for it to show up. If you're not feeling it, take a break, do something different and come back later. Anyway, sam, I hope these tips help you find your flow state more often. It's a wonderful feeling when it all clicks and with a little practice it'll come more naturally. And to everyone else, if you have questions or topics you want me to cover, just reach out. I'm here to help. Thanks for listening and until next time, keep creating and enjoy the process. Thank you.
