Jennifer Logue:

Hello everyone and welcome to Creative Space, a podcast where we explore, learn and grow in creativity together. I'm your host, jennifer Logue, and today we're diving into a question that's on a lot of people's minds, especially those working in advertising Is copywriting dead? It's a question that speaks to the anxieties many creatives feel as the industry evolves. Today's episode is inspired by an email I received from one of our listeners, kevin, an associate creative director at an ad agency in New York. Here's what Kevin wrote Hi, jennifer, I've been working in advertising for over a decade and recently one of my copywriters came to me asking if they should go back to school for something else. With AI and automation on the rise, they're worried that copywriting is becoming obsolete. What advice can I give them to stay motivated and relevant in this changing landscape, kevin, kevin, thank you so much for reaching out. I think this is a question that a lot of us in the creative fields have been wrestling with. The industry is definitely changing with all this new technology, but that doesn't mean that creativity is any less valuable. So let's talk about how we can navigate these changes and keep copywriting relevant and make sure that it has an impact.

Jennifer Logue:

Tip number one embrace technology as a tool, not a threat. The first thing to understand is that technology, including AI, isn't here to replace us, but to enhance what we do. Encourage your copywriter to see these tools as assistance that can help with research, generating ideas or even handling repetitive tasks. This leaves more room for the truly creative and strategic work that only humans can do. Tip number two focus on storytelling and emotional connection. No matter how advanced technology gets, it cannot replace the human experience. Great copywriting, as you know, isn't just about clever words. It's about storytelling and creating emotional connections. Encourage your team to dig deeper into the brand's stories and consumer insights that resonate on a human level. This is where the true value of a copywriter lies.

Jennifer Logue:

Tip number three diversify your skill set. Today, being a strong writer is important, but it helps to have a diverse skill set Now. This could mean learning more about digital marketing, user experience or even writing scripts for videos. Encourage your copywriter to expand their skills so they can be more versatile and valuable in the industry, especially when it comes to creating content across different platforms. Tip number four stay curious and adaptable. The industry is always evolving anyway, and the best way to stay relevant is to be curious and open to learning. Encourage your whole team to keep up with industry trends, take courses, attend workshops and be open to experimenting with new formats and platforms. Adaptability is key to thriving in a changing environment.

Jennifer Logue:

Tip number five be an advocate for the value of creative thinking. Remind your copywriter that while technology can handle data and automation, creative thinking isn't something that machines can replicate, and there's a whole podcast episode on this. Check it out with Grim a few episodes ago. Creative ideas, strategic insights and the ability to connect the dots in a way that resonates with people that's the real value of what we do. Insights and the ability to connect the dots in a way that resonates with people that's the real value of what we do. Advocate for the role of human creativity in solving complex problems and adding that special magic sauce, that special value to clients' businesses.

Jennifer Logue:

Kevin, I hope these tips help you guide your copywriter and your team through these uncertain times. Copywriting isn't dead. It's simply evolving, and those who can embrace change and focus on the unique value they bring will continue to thrive. Anyway, thank you for tuning in to this episode of Creative Space. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how you're navigating the changes in your own creative fields with all this new technology, with AI and everything. Keep sending in your questions and let's keep this conversation going Until next time. Keep creating, keep innovating and remember human creativity will always, always have a place in this world. Thank you.
