Jennifer Logue:

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Creative Space, a podcast where we explore, learn and grow in creativity together. I'm your host, jennifer Logue, and today we have a special episode lined up for you 21 Artist Date Ideas, perfect for Summer. Now, in case you're new to the podcast, the concept of an artist's date comes from Julia Cameron's book on creativity, the Artist's Way, where you take yourself out on solo excursions to nurture your inner artist. So, whether you're an artist looking for inspiration or someone who wants to reconnect with their inner child, these ideas will help fill you up creatively this summer. Also, I hope this is helpful for anyone doing the artist's way. Currently, as you know, you need to go on an artist's date each week, so it helps to have extra ideas. Let's dive in.

Jennifer Logue:

Number one make homemade popsicles. This one is super easy and delicious. You can create your own popsicles using fruit juices, yogurt and fresh fruit to stay cool. Fresh fruit to stay cool. Number two go to a drive-in movie. This is a uniquely summer experience. There's bound to be one within driving distance to you somewhere, and if not, that brings us to number three. Create an outdoor movie setup in your backyard. All you need is a blank wall and a projector and you're good to go.

Jennifer Logue:

Number four visit a museum you've never been to before. Museums are wonderful in the summer because they're so cool Like literally cool air conditioning. They're a great way to beat the heat. Do some Googling and find a museum you haven't been to yet. Number five go to the beach for the day. Living in the Philly region, I'm an hour and a half from the closest beach by car and it's lovely. Going for the day is such a treat and there's plenty to do to make your inner child artist happy, from finding seashells to exploring the different stores on the boardwalk if there's a boardwalk there to watching the sunset. If you don't have a beach near you, you can maybe substitute this for a lake. Number six create sand sculptures or sand castles. I mean, since we're on the topic of beaches, I figured I'd throw that one in here. It's fun.

Jennifer Logue:

Number seven fly a kite. Channel your inner Mary Poppins and go fly a kite. When's the last time you've done that? Number eight explore a new neighborhood or town. Pretend like you're a tourist for a second. There's got to be a neighborhood or town near you that you haven't explored. Take a day and explore it through the eyes of a tourist. I myself and I'm a bit ashamed to say this I have never been to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, and that's on my bucket list before the summer is over. So, number nine give yourself an outdoor photography challenge, and you can do this with a smartphone, because we have amazing cameras on our phones. So here we go Go exploring in your city for the day and give yourself a theme for pictures. Maybe you focus on the color yellow, or maybe your theme can be flowers or sunglasses you decide, but you'll be amazed at the new perspective you'll gain from focusing on this theme in your pictures.

Jennifer Logue:

Number 10, go to an outdoor concert. One of the best things about summer is going to outdoor concerts. If you're on a budget, you'd be surprised. There are a ton of free outdoor concerts as well. I just saw the Spin doctors for free a few weeks ago and they were fantastic.

Jennifer Logue:

11. Go to an amusement park. When's the last time you've been to an amusement park? Nothing will thrill your inner child more than going on a roller coaster. Although mine prefers carousels, I'm not a fan of those scary rides.

Jennifer Logue:

Number 12, play mini golf. I mean, mini golf is so much fun. It's hard to not have fun with playing mini golf, I mean, but it's better with friends. So this would not be good for, like, a solo artist date, but a group artist date, and I know that kind of is against the rules, but I think group dates are essential too, especially if you're more extroverted or if you live by yourself. I think it's important for us to change it up with our artist dates from being solo to being with people. Anyway, number 13, reread a favorite childhood book. This is a fun one. All of a sudden I'm thinking of going to the library and taking out a bunch of Nancy Drew books and Sweet Valley High.

Jennifer Logue:

Number 14, go to the zoo. Philly, where I'm from, is home to the oldest zoo in the country, the Philadelphia Zoo, and they even have a watering hole for adults aka you know, adult beverages and such. So you and your inner child artist can have a great time. Number 15, create chalk art. I used to love creating chalk art on the sidewalks in South Philly. This would be such a fun artist date if you have sidewalks. If you don't, I don't know what to tell you.

Jennifer Logue:

Number 16, catch fireflies. When I was a kid, we would run around catching fireflies late into the night. I don't see kids doing that now, which makes me sad. But if you have fireflies near you, grab a mason jar with a lid that has holes in it and capture a few. Of course, do let them go at the end of the night. Let them go, let them be free. I mean, we don't want to be like hurting fireflies.

Jennifer Logue:

Number 17, go to a farmer's market Fresh produce and homemade goodies what's not to love? Come on. Number 18, try rock painting. Now, this is interesting. I got certified in Reiki a few years ago and the woman who trained me had a house that was just so filled with love and she painted rocks on all of her windowsills that said things like love and gratitude and peace, and that might be a fun project or a fun theme for you to tackle if you decide to go the rock painting route.

Jennifer Logue:

Number 19, go stargazing On a clear summer night. Just find a dark spot away from the city lights, lay on a blanket and just soak in the stars. Number 20, go on a hot air balloon ride. This is something I've always wanted to do. I'm adding this one to my summer to-do list. I have to do that this summer. I need to find a hot air balloon.

Jennifer Logue:

All right, number 21,. Make a summer playlist. Playlists can help us remember so much about our lives, so make a playlist for your best summer yet. So there you have it 21 artist date ideas, perfect for summer. I hope these activities inspire you to embrace your creativity and enjoy the season.
